Chlorine (Clz) <br />There has been no monitoring for chlorine. The Numeric Standazd (chronic) for chlorine <br />is 0.011 mg/l. Mine water dischazges are aerated at the beginning of the treatment system <br />and by the drop outlet at Outfa11001 from the fmal treatment pond. North Thompson <br />Creek itself is well aerated by turbulent flows. <br />Cyanide (CN) <br />There has been no monitoring for cyanide. The Numeric Standazd for cyanide is 0.005 <br />mg/l. <br />Nitrate (N03) <br />There has been no continuous or recent monitoring for nitrate at the downstream <br />monitoring location on North Thompson Creek, thus there is no direct information to <br />determine the relationship of downstream concentrations of nitrate with the Numeric <br />Standazd for nitrate. However, baseline monitoring suggests that there is no effect on <br />nitrate concentrations in North Thompson Creek from Outfa11001 dischazges, and that <br />the Numeric Standazd is not exceeded in downstream flows. The Numeric Standazd for <br />nitrate (NO3) is 10 mg/1. Nitrate was not detected in sources of Mine No. 1 or Mine No. 3 <br />water, the sources of Outfall 001 dischazge. Nitrate ranged from undetectable to 0.04 mg/l <br />in baseline upstream sampling. It ranged from undetectable to 0.06 mg/1 in baseline <br />downstream flows. <br />Nitrite (NOZ) <br />The Numeric Standazd for nitrite is 0.05 mg/1. There has been no monitoring for nitrite. <br />Sulfide (hydrogen sulfide, HZS) <br />There has been no continuous or recent monitoring for sulfide at the downstream <br />monitoring location on North Thompson Creek, thus there is no direct information to <br />determine the relationship of downstream concentrations of sulfide with the Numeric <br />Standazd. However, there was baseline, but has been no other, monitoring for sulfide. <br />This baseline monitoring results suggest that sulfide concentrations may be above the <br />Numeric Standazd downstream in North Thompson Creek, but that there is no effect from <br />Outfall 001 dischazges. The Numeric Standard for sulfide (S, undissociated HzS) is 0.002 <br />mg/1. Sulfide was detected in North Thompson Creek upstream and downstream baseline <br />sampling up to 0.1 mg/1. Sulfide was undetected in Mine No. 1 and Mine No. 3 mine <br />water, the sources of Outfa11001 dischazges. There is a distinct hydrogen sulfide odor <br />from Spring No. 1 and the seep below Portal 1, but none has been reported for other <br />locations. Mine water dischazge inflows aze aerated at the beginning of the treatment <br />system and by the drop outlet at Outfa11001. No sulfur smell at these sites has been <br />reported. <br />24 <br />
