14.14 mgl1. These values were from a downstream North Thompson Creek sample of
September 8, 2002.
Numeric Standards
Physical and Biological
Dissolved Oxygen (D.O.)
There has been no monitoring for dissolved oxygen, thus impacts of the mine water
dischazges regazding dissolved oxygen aze not known. However, impacts on downstream
dissolved oxygen maybe insignificant, and concentrations may meet the Numeric
Standazd of 6.0 mg/l. Flows in North Thompson Creek aze turbulent, mine water
dischazge inflows aze aerated at the beginning of the treatment system, and Outfa11001
dischazges aze aerated by the drop outlet and runout from outfall to the stream.
pH
Monitoring results suggest that there is no effect on the pH of North Thompson Creek
from Outfa11001 dischazges, and that downstream pH values are within the Numeric
Standazd. The Numeric Standard for pH is 6.5 - 9.0.
Fecal Coli (F. Coli)
There has been no monitoring for fecal coliforms (F. Coli), thus effects of the mine water
dischazges on fecal coliforms in North Thompson Creek aze not known. Sewage
treatment facilities at the site have been removed and disturbances reclaimed. It is
unlikely that any current mine-related activities have a potential for introduction of fecal
coliforms to North Thompson Creek. The landowner does run cattle and horses on
reclaimed azeas of the site. The Numeric Standazd for F Coli is 2000!100 ml.
Inorganic
Ammonia (NH3)
There was baseline stream and mine inflow monitoring, but no continuous of recent
monitoring for ammonia in North Thompson Creek. There has been no monitoring for
ammonia in the dischazge at Outfa11001. The Numeric Standazd (chronic) for ammonia is
0.02 mg/1. The results of mine inflow monitoring suggest a potential for ammonia in
Outfa11001 dischazges at concentrations above the Numeric Standazd. However, baseline
monitoring of stream flows suggests that levels of ammonia are already above the
Numeric Standazd and the concentrations in Outfa11001 dischazge. Thus there is no effect
on North Thompson Creek with regazds to ammonia from Outfa11001 discharges.
23
