10-year, 24-hour storm event. Pond design and criteria can be found on
pages 72 through 80 of the permit application.
D. Acid-Forming and Toxic Spoil
No acid- or toxic-forming materials have been identified as occurring within the
mine or loadout areas as a result of a chemical analysis of soils, coal, roof and
floor materials, or the coal refuse. For more information on the results of these
tests, refer to Section 2.06 of the permit application.
E. Impoundments
Three sediment ponds currently exist at the Twin Pines No. 2 Mine site and
sales site (see C above). No other impoundments are present at the mine or
sales site.
F. Surface and Groundwater Monitoring
Despite cessation of mining, the applicant will continue to conduct hydrologic
monitoring in a manner approved by the Division and according to the terms as
outlined in Stipulation 18, as follows:
Stipulation No. 18
THE PERMITTEE WILL SUBMIT TO THE DIVISION SEMI-ANNUAL MONITORING
REPORTS FOR BOTH THE TWIN PINES MONITORING WELL AND FOR THE
CALDHtOLA MINE WELL. THE MONITORING REPORTS MUST INCLUDE
QUARTERLY WATER LEVEL, PH AND ELECTRO-CONDUCTIVITY MEASUREMENTS.
THE QUALITY OF THE WATER IN WELL NO. TPW-1 WILL BE MONITORED SEMI-
ANNUALLY FOR THE FOLLOWING PARAMETERS:
PH ALUMINUM
CONDUCTIVITY SODIUM
TDS SULFATE
TOTAL HARDNESS ARSENIC
SAR BORON
BICARBONATE CADMIUM
CALCIUM COPPER
CARBONATE IRON
CHLORIDE LEAD
MAGNESIUM MANGANESE
NITRATE MERCURY
POTASSIUM SELENIUM
~__
THIS FULL SUITE SAMPLING OF WELL NO. TPW-1 WILL BE CONDUCTED IN
APRIL AND OCTOBER OF EACH YEAR, AND THE REQUIItED SEMI-ANNUAL
MONITORING REPORTS WILL BE SUBMITTED BY TUNE 1 AND DECEMBER 1 OF
EACH YEAR.
Division review of hydrologic data submitted since 1984 indicates that the two
wells referenced in Stipulation No. 18 have not shown any impact from mining.
Mine inflow has been relatively constant over the period between 1987 and
23
