Box 25367, DFC <br />Denver, CO 80225-0367 <br />~~\.e~IVERJ <br />FEB 0 5 2007 <br />Oivis~on of ftec~arnation, <br />Mining and Safety <br />RE: K-Order No. 7620997 -Modification Reouest (Task 71 <br />Dear Mr. Owens: <br />Stabilization work on the landslide that occurred at Trapper on October 8, 2006 has progressed <br />well in accordance with the K-Order modifications previously issued by MSHA. These <br />modifications have allowed Trapper to: Task I) -remove brush along the southem margin of the <br />slide area in order to better monitor ground movements; Task 2) -seal tension cracks along the <br />southeastern margin of the slide area to reduce future moisture infiltration; Task 3) - constmct a <br />buttress north of the exposed H seam coal at the south end of G-dip pit; Task 4) - pwsue plans <br />for exploratory drilling activities to further evaluate the slide (drilling of two holes has <br />previously been approved but has not begun); Task 5) -continue tension crack sealing work on <br />the southern end of the slide area; and Task 6) -begin implementing tasks associated with <br />cleaning, ripping and mining the block of H-seam coal located adjacent to the southeast corner of <br />the slide. <br />Trapper Mining Inc. (TMn is currently planning to perform an additional task within the <br />boundaries of the slide azea. TMI is specifically requesting that K-Order No. 7620997 be further <br />modified to allow the following: <br />Task 7: Access road constmction, drill pad constmction, drilling and coring <br />activities within the boundaries of the slide area to define the slide plane, install <br />monitoring devices and determine the condition of the coal reserves in the area. This task <br />also includes routine monitoring of instrumentation within the boundaries of the slide. <br />The following discussion provides additional detail regarding the proposed Task 7 and the <br />particular safety measures that are planned to be utilized. Jan 2uary 5.20071. <br />Task 7: Trapper Mine will complete the activities described as Task 7 using the standazd <br />safe work practices and procedures normally employed at Trapper Mine.
