During construction of the drill pad topsoil well be stockpiled on the West Sidc of Ute pad
(creek side) to form a berm between the pad and the creek. Additionally, a small ditch will be
inscribed around the topsoil stockpile to kccp runoff from the outslope of the stockpile from
entering [he creek. The setup of the site will be such that all drainage is contained avithin the drill
pad. Once the topsoil is removed from the site i[ will be leveled as required to accommodate the
drill rig and support equipment. Three mud pits will be excavated within Ute site and the material
removed from the pits will be placed adjacent to the pit or in fire area of the pit. The pits will be
approximately 10' x 10- s S'. In the event additional pit(s) azc required to contain drilling fluids
within the site they will be of similar size to the existing pits. If the pits will not hold water, i,c. the
cxe:avatiun is into gravels or sands; they will bC Itned to kccp drilling Fluids in Utem. It is in the
best interest of the driller to kccp drilling fluids in the pit. The equipment required for drilling the
hole would be parked on the road that Icads into the site to tninimizc disturbance.
Drilling`Methods and F_g, uiomcnt: Exploration holes will be established with grubber-tired truck-
mounted air/foam rotary drill nulling mud may be employed in the drilling mcdiwn. I'rcvious
drilling activities in [hc immediate area have not enwuntered water-bearing formations producing
any appreciable: quantities of water from the strata overlying the coal seam of interest. Both the
Twentymilc Sandstone and Wadge Overburde:[t hate been documented to contain water, however,
neither typically exhibits sufficient head to produce flows at the surface. Drill hole depths
projected for each site are specified on 199R NOI Table 2. After drilling the holes will be lagged
with a standard suite of geophysical data logging instruments. No holes will be developed as water
wells. Exploration holes vrll be sealed with cement grout installed with the drilling rig to within 3'
of the surface. Drill cuttinGS will be used to backfill the uppermrta 3' ofcach hole.
In reference to Ute holes surface casing will be set f0' below bedrock to ensure drilling Fluids are
not lost in the sutficial soils. The surface casing will be grouted in place: a3td then thu hole will bC
advanced as per normal methods. The surface casing at all three sites will have a threaded surface
collar to allow for quick shut in of the hole in case significant flows are encountered. .
Holes PDS001 through PDS003 are relatively shallow as compared to other holes dri{led at the
property and mainly will be advanced through 500 feet of tnarint shale that immedively overlies
Ute Wadge Overburden unit. Therefore, TCC does not anticipate encountering any large volume of
water. The Wadge Overburden may produce a minor amount of water that can be contained within
Ute mud pits
The coal will be cored and flee hole gcophysically logged. Upon completion of the coring and
logging the hole will be uanic grouted Utrough and twenty feet above [hc Wadge Overburden.
From that point up it will either be grouted or backfillcd with cuttings to within ten feet of the
surface. The interval from ten feet to wiUhin three feet of the surface will be grouted and then the
remaining three feet will be backfille:d with soils. The surface casing will be cut off three fce~t below
the surface or it may be removed entirely from the site. The hole will be [narked as discussed
previously.
Seismic Line: Twen[ymile is planning to conduct a limited seismic investigation in an attempt to
obtain additional information on the fault eneounte;rcd in Ute 10 Riglu gateroads.
