Basis of Itiglrt to Enter for Exploration and Reclamation
1998 Notice of Intent (NOi) 't'able 1 details proposed hole locations and surfaec and coal
ownership at each site. Federal coal is leased to Twentymile Coal Company (TCC) at the
proposed drill sites PDS OOI, UU2 and UU3. TCC obtained a surface use agreement from P&M for
right of entry into the S 'h of the NE 'i: of Section 26 (PDS00] to 003). A copy of this document
has been forwarded to the DMG. in reference to PDS 006 and OUB, these cites arc located on
properly owned by Twentymile Coal. PD$ 007 is located on State of Colorado surface overlying
State lease CO-3229, and [his coal lease allows for use of the surface as needed for the operation.
In reference t~ PI1S 009, it is located on property o~med by Camillctti and Sons and TCC is in the
process of obtairting a surface use agreement from them for this exploration work. A copy of the
agreemrnt will be forwarded to the Division when it is obtained, and TCC understands it will not
begin any cxplo[aciar activities prior [o securing this agrce~rrent.
The seismic litre traverses property owned by Cross Mount<vn Ranch Limited Pa[tnership,
lwentymtle Coal Company, State of Colorado and Camilletti and Sons. Copies of the access
agreements will be forwarded to the DMG once they are available. TCC understands that it will
no[ enter these lands prior to securing the ncrresary agra7ttarts.
The backhce test corridors traverse property owned by Ttventymile Coal Company, Ashley
Investments and the State of Colorado. TCC has tltc right of entry to all of these properties
through direct ownership, coal Icasc rights or cxis[ing surfaec use agreetnenu.
4.) Description of Land to be Affected
Thc proposed exploration dell sites arc all located in 7owttship 5 North. Range R6 West, Section
26. Thc three exploration sites arc proposed within the Middle Creek drainage, four sites and the
seismic line are in the Fish Creek drainage. Elevation ranges from 6680 to 7400 fcc[ within the
proposed n;Plnration area. Vegeta[ion typically coruists of mountain shrub, sagcbtusl>, attd
rangeland, Both cattle and sheep have historically grazed this arty. Several different soil [ypes
occur at [hc proposed drill sites. Thc proposed sites occur within the Buckskin, Winevada/SpliVO,
Claybum, Wincvatli, BinW and Duncklcy/Skyway [napping unit. Salvageable horizotu of these
soils vary from 10 to 24 inches deep. Thc topography of the areas to be affected is gently sloping
in nature. Cultural resources clearance will be obtained for the repuired sites and the report will be
forwarded to the Division prior to artry. Thc survey is n;quired for Iceatioru 001, 002, U03, 009,
and those scgntetrts of the seismic lint: in sections l6, I7, 18 and 24. TCC will obtain the
appropriate clearance for these sites Print to initiating any earthwork adivities at these sites.
5.) Describe Exploration Activities
It is an[icipattxl the drilling program will be conducted during the summer artd fall of 1998 while
weather conditions for field activities are most favorable. Routt County Roads 27 and 33 will
provide primary access to the project area with secondary access routes used as indicated on the
enclosed map. Exploration activities arc cstinrated to require less than two wceks of drilling per
hole for sifts PDSOOI through PDS003. ]t is urtdctcrmined if all rhrtx indicated on the tnap will be
drilled. Thc exploration program will be modified and tailored as necessary depending upon the
results of the initial drilling, rig availability, and weather conditions. ThCproposed plan provides
for maximum flczibility in the drilling proerain by swking approval for all po[cntially drilltxl
09/23/98 I of G
