r
Recharge
One Box Elder Ditch share:will be recharged into the 8.5-acre pond located on the northwest "
portion of the site. Water enters the pond from the Box Elder Ditch through a culvert located
near the northwest corner of the pond (Figure No. 1). Through a conversation with Jack Swets, `
Box Elder Ditch Superintendent, it was determined that water has been diverted into the pond at
a rate of 1.0 cfs throughout the 2001 irrigation season. According to Mr. Swets, 1.0 cfs is
equivalent to 1.0 Box Elder Ditch share. The flow into the pond is currently limited by the size
of the culvert.
The recharge to the Cache la Poudre River was modeled under the following assumption's:
• The downstream edge of the pond used for recharge of the 1..0 Box Elder share is
approximately 5000 feet from the Poudre River.
• The transmissivity was assumed as 55,000 gal/day/ft. This value was assumed to be.the
same as the transmissivity of a pump test well in the area: Source: Groundwater Circular
No. 11, Loc. B7-68-22aba2 (Appendix A).
• Thespecific yield was assumed to be 0.2, which is typical for an alluvial aquifer.
• The location of the parallel impermeable boundary was assumed to be a distance of 5800
feet from a live stream. C for your review. The model
shows the timing from recharge of the consumptive use credit for 1.0 Box Elder share owned by
Flatiron Co., which is 40:9 acre-feet: This credit was prorated from the values shown in column
"F" in Table, No. 3 for the 8.0 Box Elder shares owned by Flatiron Co. The timing of the
recharge credit at equilibrium for this 1.0 Box Elder share is shown in Table No. 4. Since the full
delivery of the 1.0 share is diverted into the pond, the historic return flows from this share are
maintained in the same timing to the river.
Rigden Flume
Flatiron Co. owns the Rigden Flume water right that was decreed in case no. 89CW226: The
Rigden Flume water right is decreed for augmentation and other uses with a rate of 10.6 cfs. It
carries water from the drainage basin-that lies to the east of the East Rigden site. (Figure No. 1).
The water from this drainage empties into the Fossil Creek inlet ditch. A copy of the decree is
included in Appendix D. Applegate Group, Inc. compiled the call records available for both the
South Platte and Cache la Poudre rivers. These records were reviewed with George Varra,
District 3 Water Commissioner. It was determined from these records that the Rigden Flume
water right may be used for credit December through March, during these months there is no
downstream call on the Platte River, and the only call on the Poudre River is the Fossil Creek
Page 5
