Wash down water currently has
the potential to flow door openings. All door openings affected by wash down water or spills
from tanks will have a concrete lip installed before the mill begins operations again to
prevent wash water end tank spills from leaving the building. All floor drains in the building
are piped to the tailings pond.
Tailings mtd process water from the thickener are piped from the mill building to the tailings
pond in a buried pipe to the tailings pond. The tailings pond is lined with a high density
polyethylene liner to contain all tailings end process water. Thera is a potential for a spill if
the tailings Brie is kept too close to the top of the tailings pond embankment end there is s
break in the spigoting line. The tailings spigoting line will be kept off the top of the
emberrlnneM and on the inside of the tailings emb~ekment.
All oils and greases ere stored in the mill building in closed containers. Diesel fuel fair the
equipment is brought in portable tanks in picktrps or a portable fuel trailer. Thera is some
potential of spills of fuel end lubricating oil while mainro+n;n9 vehicles in the meintenarrce
area There is also a potential for creating suspended solids from the use of an uttpaved area
All stone water in this area northeast of the mill (Area 3) is directed to the sedmtent trap in
Area 4.
The outslope of the tailings pond, topsoil storage piles, end a disturbed area southeast of the
mill have a potential for adding suspended solids to storm water runoff. The areas have been
revegetated to decroase the potential for developing suspended solids during storms. In
addition, a sediment trap is located at the bottom of the roadway east of the tailings pond and
southeast of the mill building to contain suspended solids drtring stotms_
Storm water from the tailingi pond is decanted from the tailings pond through a 2-in.
diameter pipe to the F3aae1 A mine edit below the tailings ptm~ The water.is stored behind
the bulkhead for reuse es process water in the mill. A break in flee decant line or rettrrn
process line could release waters that might contain heavy metals or dissolved solids..
SIGNIFICANT SPII.LS Bt LEAKS OF TOXIC OR HAZARDOUS SU19$TAPICES
Dabs S III or Leak
date Oil spilled on ground in compressor shed on northeast side of milt building. All oil saturated
unknown soil is bein rerrroved:
13/94 Tailings line broke on failings embankment allowing milings m flow down oublope of tailing
embankment Approximately 50 gallons of tailings were involved. The Iltte was repaired
and tailin s sands were cleaned u and rebrmed m the tailin s d.
8/95 Water shred in Hazel A adR leaked through bulkhead and flowed down Cash Guth.
Unknown Quantity of water discharged. Bulkhead repaired, and a secondary colter dam and
pump installed to contain any leakage tram bulkhead. Leakage water periodically pumped
back behind the bulkhead.
10/11/95 Water shored in Hazel A adR siphoned through suction line in the secondary pump beck
sysbam and flowed down Cash Guleh. 200 to 500 gelbns of water were involved. Suction
line >b be removed attar um in .
