Rule 2.04.7(3) - Alternate Water supply Information
The information contained in the permit application demonstrates that
strip pits will be dry, since water bearing strata will not be
intercepted by the pits. The driller's lithologic log of drill hole
29-8, located adjacent to the 30" air shaft, states water was encountered
at a depth of 43 feet whereas the coal to be mined ranged from 9 to
19 feet.
The water table in hole 29-4, the monitor well located just outside the
pit area at the southwest corner, shows water was standing in the drill
hole over a year's time period at depths ranging from 83 to 89 feet.
Water was encountered during drilling at 83 feet. The coal to be mined
is 57 to 67 feet deep.
Water samples of this water and two other wells were analyzed for
temperature, pH, depth, and conductivity on a monthly basis for one year
to Drovide a baseline study of ground water properties Drior to strip
mining to determine the effects that mining may have on the water.
There will be no contamination, diminution or interruption of surface
water sources as a result of the operation. There is one ephemeral
drainage which will receive runoff from the disturbed area, but all
runoff will be routed through an approved sediment control system and
will meet applicable effluent requirements. The Division's conclusions
regarding surface and ground water impacts of the mine derived from data
included in the application are contained in the findings document and
reaffirm that this operation will not cause diminution, contamination, or
interruption.
Rule 2.04.0(sc) - Climatological Information
The Division does not understand the question or concern. Exhibit G
shows an annual surface wind summary derived from information collected
from October 1938-1943. Pages 2 and 3 show summaries of climatic data
for Trinidad, Colorado for years 1954-1980. The operator supplied the
5 years of wind summary to show the Division the direction of winds in
the area. The information provided is adequate to satisfy the
requirements of the Act and Rules.
Rule 2.04.10 - Vegetation Information
Map 5, Vegetation, has been revised to show that 18 transects were taken
r rather than the 15 shown. The new map is located in the Map 5 slot
located in Volume II. Related to the vegetation information is
additional information contained Exhibit H, Volume III. Exhibit H (d)
replaced the same in the report, and Exhibits (h), (i), and (j) were
added. This maD was replaced in the application copy on file at the
Las Animas County Courthouse on October 5, 1990.
-5-
