~ i <br />The Safety Department is responsible for acquiring and updating MSDS's. They will contact the <br />chemical manufacturer or vender if additional research is necessary or if an IVISDS has not been <br />supplied with an initial shipment. Remember that the Safety Department must cleaz all new <br />procurements of hazardous chemicals for the company. Do not use a product that has no <br />MSDS, Labels and Other Forms of Warning. <br />The Safety Department will ensure that all hazardous chemicals in the workplace are properly <br />labeled and updated as necessary. Labels should list at least the chemical identity, appropriate <br />hazard warnings, and the name and address or the manufacturer, importer or other responsible <br />party. Your supervisor will refer [o the corresponding MSDS [o assist you in verifying label <br />information. Containers that are shipped from the workplace will be checked by the Safety <br />Department to make sure that all containers are properly labeled. <br />If there are a number of stationary containers within a work area that have similar contents and <br />hazards, signs will be posted on them to convey the hazard information. <br />When a chemical is transferred into a portable container, you must make sure [he portable <br />container has a proper label that clearly shows the required information. However, if you <br />transfer chemicals from a labeled container to a portable container that is intended only for your <br />immediate use, no labels are required on the portable container. Immediate use means that you <br />must use up or empty the container during your shift. Pipes or piping systems will not be labeled <br />but their contents will be described in the training sessions. Remember, do not use products <br />that are unlabeled or with defaced labels. If you discover a product [hat has lost its label or <br />that has a defaced label report it to your supervisor or the Safety Department. <br />Non-Routine Tasks <br />When you are required to perform hazardous non-routine tasks a special training session will be <br />conducted to inform you regarding the hazardous chemicals to which you might be exposed and <br />the proper precautions to take to reduce or avoid exposure. Examples ofnon-routine tasks are: <br />chemical spills <br />working near electrical systems <br />entering manholes or vaults <br />working near a pipe containing a hazardous chemical <br />working with drums or bulk chemicals <br />Tratntne <br />Everyone who works with or is potentially exposed to hazardous chemicals will receive initial <br />training on the Hazard Communication Standard and the safe uses of those hazardous chemicals <br />by their supervisor. A program has been prepared for this purpose. Whenever a new hazazd is <br />introduced, additional training will be provided. At least yearly a review of the program will take <br />place. Your supervisor and the Safety Department will be available to answer any questions from <br />workers on the program or the products in use. The training program will emphasize these items: <br />
