i ~ ~ <br />/,. <br />FINDINGS: <br />--This is a reactivation of a former mining operation which <br />is located in an area of other mining operations and, therefore, <br />is compatible with surrounding land uses. This proposed mining <br />operation is smaller than the former mining operation. <br />--Concerns raised by the Division of Wildlife and the <br />Planning Dept. regarding wildlife and water quality have been <br />addressed (Division of Wildlife letter dated December 1, 1990). <br />Planning Commission member Ken Spann noted that he did not regard <br />the conveyor belt to materially impact the deer and habitat in <br />such a way that modifications would be necessary. <br />--The proponent has agreed to clean-up abandoned equipment <br />and materials to the extent feasible to improve highway visuals. <br />--The number of workers, carpooling, and primary hauling by <br />rail do not constitute a significant impact to traffic on the <br />highway. <br />--Under Section 2-102 (3) (b) of the Gunnison County Land <br />Use Resolution, this location is necessary because of the <br />location of the coal and the existing transportation facilities. <br />--There are no substantial conflicts with County land use <br />policies and design guidelines. <br />RECObIlYIENDATION: <br />The Gunnison County Planning Commission recommends that LUC# <br />1990-51, an application by Somerset Mining Company, be classified <br />as a Minor Impact and approved with the following condition: <br />--That prior to Board action, the County Sanitarian inspect <br />the sewage facilities for compliance with State and/or County <br />regulations. <br />MOTION PASSED unanimously. <br />
