• In the sagebrush rangeland and grassland communities and their
corresponding reference areas, the number of woody stems that were
rooted within 50 square meter quadrats (50 x lm) were counted. In
the juniper-pinyon community, the number of woody stems that were
rooted within 200 square meter quadrats (50 x 4m} were counted.
Subshrubs were not included in the woody stem counts.
Herbaceous Production:
Greystone Development Consultants, Inc. conducted the
vegetative production sampling at the proposed Lillylands, Inc.
mine site. The sampling was conducted between June 4 and June 17,
1991. The methods used for the sampling are outlined below.
Herbaceous production was sampled in both disturbance and
• reference areas. One to four, one meter square quadrats were
located at random compass points at the point locations established
during cover sampling. If additional samples were required, the
sample locations were chosen using a random numbers table.
The quadrat was placed flat on the ground and located 10 feet
from the cover sampling point. All current annual herbaceous
production rooted within the quadrat was clipped, bagged and
separated according to life form. The life forms included
perennial and annual grasses, perennial and annual forbs, and
noxious weeds. Samples were weighed and adequacy of the sample
calculated on green weight.
