C7 <br />found on the permit area or the surrounding area by either Mr. <br />Hayes or Ms. McKee (who taught Plant Taxonomy at CS U). <br />Number of Communities: <br />Vegetation communities (delineated on the basis of existing, <br />visually dominant perennial species) were identified for the entire <br />permit area and for adjacent areas within approximately a half mile <br />of the permit boundary. Major communities existing within the <br />permit area were sampled and quantitatively described. Initial <br />examination of the permit area in conjunction with Mike Savage and <br />Larry Routten of MLRD on April 11, 1991 indicated that four <br />communities exist: sagebrush rangeland, juniper-pinyon, native <br />• grassland, and disturbed grassland. The latter community because <br />of its small size (less than 10 acres), was considered to be a <br />minor community. The other three communities were considered to be <br />major communities and as such required sampling. Reference areas <br />were established for comparison purposes far the sagebrush <br />rangeland and native grassland communities. It is not the intent <br />of the operator to reestablish a juniper-pinyon community. Thus, <br />upon consultation with and approval of the surface owner, the <br />Division of Wildlife, and Mined Land Reclamation Division, it was <br />determined that a juniper-pinyon reference area did not need to be <br />established.
