Cultural and Pistoric Resources - Fules 2.04.4 and 2.05.6(4) (con'[1
Pursuant to Rule 2.07.6(2)(e) the Division finds the applicant trill not
adversly affect an}• publicly ot:ned park or place listed on the Rational
Register of Historic Places.
Il'. Geology - Rules 2.04.5 and 2.04.6(2)
The applicant has supplied a description of the geology- of the permit and
adjacent areas in Section 2.5 of Volume I of the application. This section
has been reviewed by the Divisior, to determine conformance with the Cclorado
Rules and Regulations. A general overview of the geologic environment c`
the site can be found in the Description of the Environment portion of this
document.
No development waste will be intentionzlly produced by this operation. P.oof
falls will, far the most part, consist entirel._• of coal and will be shipped
nut nr will involve a small enough quan, tit~• of material to allow disposal
in the mine workings. If any major roof fall occurs which would necessitate
disposal outside of the mine, Salt Creek ?fining Compan}• has proposed to
dispose of the material at the waste disposal site at the adjacent Dtunger
Canyon Dune.
The applicant has provided s geochemical analysis of roof and floor material.
It is indicated by the data which was supplied that the material is sodic in
nature. The pH and sodium z~snrption vatic (SAR) of the material are high
relative to preliminary Division standards. These conditions indicate that
the material may be substandard as a plant growth medium. D;o problems are
indicated b5• the soluble salt contents of the roof and floor material (see
Tables 2.1-4 and 2.1-5 of Volume I of the application).
The site for the waste disposal pile in D?unger Canyon has not been approved
by the Division. Approval of this waste pile is contingent upon the approval
of the Munger Canyon permit application. The Division trill not allow placement
of any roof fall material at this site until the site has been approved by
the Division.
For the reasons lust mentioned the follot.*in~ stipulation is necessar}-:
?. The Division has determined that there is a very slight possibility
that adverse effects to the environment c;ill result due to etipesure of the
coal in a surge pile on the mine bench. There are several reasons for
this determination.
