~ n r ,u
~ ," !
-15- ~~,U V~-~t1 ~
Structural basins strongly influence the direction of ground water flow in
contiguous regional aquifers and thus, these basins define the limits of the
area considered hydrogeologically adjacent. For purposes of a CHIS, the
impacts to ground water in ad3acent structural basins are considered separate
except to the extent that those basins interact through some component of the
surface water system. Generally, this means that the ground water impacts of
all mining within a distinct structural basin be analyzed and the sum of those
impacts considered as they affect surface water systems. Since the Eagle
Mines No. 5 and 9 have proposed life-of-mine areas within the Big Bottom
Structural Basin and in the Round Bottom Structural Basin (See Figures 2 and
4), the ground water portions of this CHIS are limited to analyzing the
cumulative impacts of anticipated mining within these basins. The cumulative
hydrologic impact of mining in other structural basins along the Yampa River
have been considered as they interact with the surface water systems in
previous Cumulative Hydrologic Impact Studies and are therefore considered as
a component of the surface water portions of this CHIS.
Anticipated mining within the surface water general area includes both surface
and underground mines (see Figure 3). They are as follows.
1} Sun land Mining Corporation - Apex No. 2 Mine, CMLRD Permit No.
C-011-61
2) Pittsburg and Midway Coal Company - Edna Mine, CMLRD Permit No.
C-001-80
3) Colorado Yampa Coal Company, Energy Mines No. 1, No. 2, the Eckman
Park Mtne, and the Foidel Creek Mine, CMLRD Permit No. C-79-177
4) Colorado Yampa Coal Company - Energy Hine No. 3 and the Middle Creek
Mine, CMLRD File No. C-036-81
5) Peabody Coal Company - Seneca II Mine, CMLRD Permit No. C-005-80
6) Sun Coal Company - Meadows No. 1 Mine, CMLRD File No. C-029-81
7) Rockcastle Company - Grassy Creek Coal Mine No. 1, CMLRD Permit No.
C-039-81
8) H.G. Coal Company - Hayden Gulch Mine, CMLRD Permit Na. C-003-80
9) Trapper Mining, Inc. - Trapper Mine, CMLRD Permit No. C-010-81
10) Empire Energy Corporation - Eagle No. 5 and No. 9 Mine - CMLRD File
No. C-044-B1
11) Colowyo Coal Company - Colowyo Coal Mine, CMLRD Permit No. C-019-81
12) Energy Fuels Coals, Inc. - Sugarloaf Mine, CMLRD File No. C-060-83
