1 IV. CONCLUSIONS
The results show that both reclaimed areas produce less sediment than the reference
' area for the design storm. Phis shows that, although the curve numbers for the
reclaimed areas are slightly higher than the reference area, the lower CP factors in the
reclaimed areas are important in determining sediment loss. The greater granunoid and
fort cover in the reclaimed areas contacts the soil to a much greater degree and is much
better in preventing erosion than the shrub cover of the pre-mining area. The computer
model verifies exactly what is expected in this case and also what has been seen at other
' sites in Colorado. Based on the results of the sedimentology analysis, Area 1 and
Areal at the New Horizon Mine 1 qualify for Phase ll bond release at this time.
29
