During the month of <br />December the water will undergo a WET test. <br />4. Please summarize the Bear Mine's experience with subsurface coal bums and elevated <br />carbon monoxide, from when mining began to the present. Has it been necessary to shut <br />doom mining operations due to elevated carbon monoxide levels? If yes, please provide <br />details. To your knowledge, where are there coal bums in and adjacent to the Bear Mine? <br />Bear -Elevated levels of carbon monoxide have caused mining to cease at times. There <br />was carbon monoxide behind C-Seam seals which was controlled so mining could <br />continue. The source of the carbon monoxide was not determined. Other than the "hot <br />spots" discussed in number 20 below, Bear has not found evidence of coal bums in and <br />adjacent to the Bear Mine. <br />5. Please describe your excavation activities along the toe of the landslide. By "excavation" <br />we refer not only to the removal of natural material but also to the removal of coal that <br />may have been piled along the toe of the slope. <br />Bear -Reclamation activities along the toe of the slope have only involved the removal of <br />coal. <br />6. Please describe the history of slope instability a[ the Beaz Mine in the general vicinity of <br />your mine during your years of operation. Note that the current landslide encompasses <br />three raveling slopes (that are influenced by undermining due to erosion by the North <br />Fork) and two upper landslides. All of these features are readily appazent in the field and <br />via inspection of aerial photographs. What are your observations of how these five <br />features have changed over time? <br />Bear -Available information related to slope stability is included in the reports by Rocky <br />Mountain Geotechnical Inc. dated August 25, 1981(File #I), April 16, 1982 (File #2), <br />Apri130 , 1986 (File #3), and May 23, 1986 (File #4), and Exhibit 21 (File #5) and <br />Exhibit 22 (File #6) of the Beaz mine permit. <br />7.
