Mr. Dave Shelton Page 3 August 24, 1982 4.30.1(2) (b) - Since the areas involved in the temporary cessation of operations of each mine are support areas for underground mines, no permanent reclamation activities have occurred nor are any planned for the duration of the temporary cessations. Northern Coal Company will continue its ongoing program of temporary vegetation stabilization where such practices are necessary and appropriate. 4.30.1(2) (c) - As stated above, there will be no permanent reclamation activities at either mine during the term of the temporary cessation. The monitoring programs recently modified in consultation with CMLR and CDH will continue. All environmental monitoring related to com- pliance (e.g., NPDES monitoring) will continue. All water treatment activities at the Northern No. 1 Mine and Rienau No. 2 Mine will continue uninterrupted, as needed. 4.30.1(2) (d) - Northern Coal Company has chosen to tem- porarily cease operations at the Rienau No. 2 Mine and continue temporary cessation of the Northern No. 1 Mine in the face of depressed coal market conditions which remain to show no sign of short term revival. Northern Coal Company's pursuit of divesting o£ the Dieeker area properties continue, but also show no sign of occurring in the near future. Northern Coal Company expects to continue ex- ploring various options for the future of the Northern No. 1 Mine and Rienau No. 2 Piine properties. The anticipated duration of this temporary cessation of both mines is through August 30, 1983. Northern Coal Company will ~• notify the CMLRD on the future disposition of the temporary cessation of the properties on or before that date.
