Shelton: <br />This letter. will serve to formally notify you under the <br />provisions of Rule 4.30.1, 'of the temporary cessation of <br />operations at the Rienau No. 2 Mine and the continuation <br />of temporary cessation of operations at the Northern No. 1 <br />Mine, both north of P1eek.er, Colorado. The information <br />required by the division under Rule 4.30.1 'is contained in <br />the following narratives and attached information. Specific <br />points of interest pertaining to the individual mines are <br />emphasized. <br />1) Northern No. 1 Mine will be temporarily sealed <br />using the design on the attached Exhibit A. The <br />plugs are designed to insure the safety of people, <br />livestock, fish and wildlife as well as to protect <br />the coal resources and water quality with the <br />flooding of the mine. If permanent sealing is <br />called for in the future, the temporary seal can <br />be modified for this function. Surface mainten- <br />ance activities will continue to comply with the <br />terms of existing approvals and applicable per- <br />formance standards. <br />2) While coal production from the Rienau No. 2 Nine <br />has ceased, there will continue to be some surface <br />and underground maintenance activity. <br />3) All environmental protection activities and monitor- <br />ing programs will be maintained according to the <br />terms of the permits and applicable performance <br />standards. <br />
