Please extend our appreciation also to Shawn Smith, Larry Routen, and Erica
Crosby from the Division, and Jim McArtle from AML, for their involvement and support at
the GEC site meeting.
EFCI has expressed concems about potential impacts from the GEC Reclamation Project to
portions of Southfield's permit area within and adjacent to the GEC work. We believe that all
of the areas of concern were adequately reviewed during the subject meeting. A summary of
the areas and relevant issues we observed and discussed is described below.
a. Fan road below 96 inch Magpie culvert: road surfacing, retaining 12 feet road
width and 8 feet wide ditch along overextended toe of Chen's Hill.
b. Fan road above 96 inch Magpie culvert: final road alignment, road surfacing,
and drainage control where road is cut into reclaimed slope.
c. Toe of Chen's Hill reclaimed slope: potential for surface drainage impacts onto
EFCI's yard and Pond No. 5 areas.
d. Contractor set-up area on Fan road at Magpie culvert: regrading banked dirt on
west side of road and removal of oil contaminated soil.
e. Crossing point of Fan road and East Pit drainage channel: channel protection
and erosion control.
