Long
Division Director
The Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology is preparing the bid document for final reclamation
at the revoked Trinidad Basin Mine (TBM) site. The Division mailed a letter to you dated
October 15, 1993, in which the Division requested verification of property ownership boundaries
and comments concerning the reestablishment of the natural stream channel that had been
diverted by mining operations. The Division has not received a response to our letter dated
October 15, 1993. The purpose of this second letter is to describe the reclamation activities that
the Division proposes to conduct on your land. If the Division does not receive a response to this
letter by February 13, 1994, the Division will assume your consent and proceed with the plans
described herein.
Enclosed are two maps titled Map I and Map II. Map I shows the areas that Division land owner-
ship records indicate are owned by you. Map I also shows the area covered by the second map,
Map II. Map II highlights the location of reclamation plans proposed by the Division that may
affect property owned by you. The circled red numbers on Map II correspond to the numbered
items of this letter. The reclamation items listed in this letter have been characterized as
possessing high, medium, or low priority based upon the Division's determination of potential
environmental degradation and threat to public safety. The Division has prioritized the reclama-
tion items in the event that sufficient bond is not available to complete reclamation of all items
listed for the entire mine site.
rProposed Reclamation Plans (item numbers correspond to Map ll)
1 . The steep reclaimed slope lying west of pond 15-P8 exhibits evidence of erosion, as small
rills and gullies have developed. The Division proposes to plant various shrub and tree
seedlings on the steep slope to encourage the establishment of vegetation and thereby
reduce erosion. Priority has been characterized as low.
