30
'
Recommendations
' 1. Exercise the customary safety precautions and rules in carrying
out the operation.
2. When the final exterior boundaries of the quarry are readied,
' erect a safety fence around it, especially along the borders
of the Denver Mountain Park lands.
' Ultimate Use of Quarry Site
How to rehabilitate the quarry site will depend in part on the ultimate
' use. The ultimate use, 40 or 50 years in the future is impossible to
foresee. We do need to explore the potentials, however.
In our 1972 report we explored five potential end uses, As some of those
' potential uses may still be viable, the discussion from the 1972 report is
included in this one as Appendix IV,
' Company plans in 1472 were to quarry no deeper than the present ground
level. The 1972 review of potential uses was based on such plans. The
Company now considers it may want to quarry as much as 240 feet below the
' present ground level, leaving a hole of about 15.6 acres in area extending
below ground level. That excavation would accumulate water and could be
filled to form a lake. We, therefore, see three alternatives that must
be considered: (1) Final quarry will end at, or above the present operating
' level, (2) The final quarry will end 240 feet below operating level and
will be dry. (3) The final quarry will end 240 feet below operating level
and the pit will be filled with water.
' '
Each potential use will be examined for all three alternatives.
fhe
first five potential uses listed below are the uses considered in 1972.
The remainder are new.
1

1

1
i
