' 29
1
determines the location of the traffic. The traffic is divided; part goes
' north on Highway 8 through Morrison, the other part goes south on Highway 8
and east on Highway 285.
' Future distribution of the hau]ing traffic will depend in part on Colorado
Supreme Court Case 26729 which will decide whether the town of Morrison
can prohibit heavy truck traffic on town streets.
' These impacts on traffic are temporary; they will cease when the operation
ceases. They are felt both on-site and off-site, Table 1.
' Future Impacts
The impacts on traffic will continue as long as the operation continues
fluctuating with the level of demand for crushed rock.
Recommendations
To the extent practicable, route trucks away from centers of congested
' traffic and habitation.
1 Safety
Like traffic, safety is studied by other con sultants. It is included
here only to complete Table 1.
PJ
f I
t
t
ure o
a
mpac
s
All phases of the operation produce on-site safety hazards; hauling produces
off-site hazards, Table 1.
Mechanical equipment, basting, steep quarry walls and steep in--quarry
' roads combine to make all work in and around the quarry hazardous. All of
these hazards are on-site and most will term inate when the operation ends.
The quarry pit, however, will continue to be hazardous permanently.
' Construction of roads is also hazardous, but those hazards terminated
when construction ended,
' The trucks that haul the rock products create the same road safety hazards
that any large trucks cause. The hazards will be both on-site and off-
site.
Future Impacts
' The hazards associated with the quarry operation and hauling will continue
as long as the operation continues, then cease. The quarry pit will
continue to represent a degree of hazard permanently.
1
1
I_J
