Fish and Wildlife - Rules 2.04.11, 2.05.6(2) and 4.18 <br />Information pertaining to fish and wildlife is found on pages 65, 66 and 94 of <br />the permit application document. <br />There is little wildlife habitat on the proposed disturbed area. Since it was <br />previously mined and little revegetation has occurred, there are no forage <br />grasses or shrubs available to support wildlife. The surrounding <br />pinyon-juniper community provide a small amount of forage. This is utilized <br />by mule deer, coyote, magpie, red-tailed hawk, pinon jay, Western bluebirds, <br />least chipmunks, Colorado chipmunks and rattlesnakes. There is no critical <br />habitat that will be disturbed. <br />On page 66 of the application, the Colorado State Division of 'Wildlife has <br />confirmed that no rare and endangered species of wildlife will be impacted by <br />the proposed mine. <br />This section is in compliance. <br />XII I. Prime Farmlands - Rule 2.07.ti(2)(c) <br />Based on communication with the Soil Conservation Service on page 64 of the <br />permit application, there is no prime or important farmlands within the <br />proposed permit area. <br />This section is in compliance. <br />XIV. 0 erations Description, Mine Facilities, Coal Handlin Structures <br />and $UDDOrt Faci id es - Rules 2.05.2, 2.05.3 1 2.05.3 2 , <br />The operations plans for the proposed Twin Pines No. 2 f4ine are presented on <br />pages 67-84 of the permit application. The proposed operation is a small <br />underground mine to service the local coal market. The anticipated production <br />is 48,000 tons per year for fourteen years utilizing a one section continuous <br />miner and conventional room and pillar mining methods. <br />The proposed surface area to be disturbed includes the 10 acre facilities area <br />and 3 acres for the mine access road. The three main entries have been <br />located on the eastern side of the coal reserve with major development down <br />dip to the west. The portal bench, as was discussed, is an old strip mining <br />area. The only additional disturbances planned for the site is the <br />construction of a fill across Lewis Gulch to facilitate truck turn-around and <br />the sediment pond. Proposed mine facilities are shown on drawing TP-3 of the <br />permit application. <br />
