Daniel I. Hernandez
July 21, 1993
Page 2
I have looked for this underground Mine Progress Map and
have been unable to located it in the Golden Eagle Files
located in my office- Could you please submit a copy of
this map to me. The map I have used to try to get some
bearings is Map #3 Golden Eagle Mine Plan dated 8/1/89.
Using a scale of 1:2,000 and the map along with a ruler, I
calculated 400 feet traveling north toward the Tatum's
residence from the railroad tracks. At the end point of 400
feet, I measured to the Tatum's residence and was just shy
of 200 feet. So this is why I am confused as to your letter
saying that the underground mining is 750 feet away- Can
you please explain what I have done wrong.
I also need to know exactly how deep the mine is and what
degree of angle was mined. Can you please also submit the
depth of the mine and if any degree of angle was tunneled
where the blower is located. This will help me to get a
general scope of what is happening here.
We are also encountering some other ground movement on Mr.
Joe Chavez"a property. He has requested a house inspection
from my Building Inspector and I have enclosed a copy of
that inspection report for your information.
I would like a copy of a recent report from the mine on
their subsidence monitoring program pertaining to the Tatum
residence and the Chavez residence. The reason I need this
information is because Las Animas County is presently
experiencing a tremendous building boom and there is a prime
subdivision located in this area. The safety and well being
of the citizens of Las Animas County who build in this
subdivision is our prime concern at this point.
