INTFODUC7ION -
•
This operation is a relatively large sand pit operation covering a
large area just south of Colorado Springs. The current permit covers an
area of about 159 acres. The permit area is one tract which is divided
into two parts by Academy boulevard. This amendment will include all
the ]ands under the control of Daniel's Sand. The total acreage
included in this amendment will be an additional 166.2 acres which will
bring the total permitted acreage at this operation to 325.6 acres.
There are several reasons for amending the permit. Dne of the most
important is to produce a location for the permit boundaries that are
easily and clearly identifiable. This helps to avoid the problem with
affecting lands outside the permit, a problem which can easily happen
with permit boundaries that tend to 6e somewhat ambiguous, especially
when operating on land that is as relatively featureless as this is.
L
Second, the amendment will increase the reserves available for
Daniel's Sand. This increase is important as the demand for sand in
Colorado Springs is usually high and to provide this demand for the
current and future growth of this very rapidly growing area of Colorado
large reserves are necessary.
Third, the amendment provides a means to introduce into the permit
same modifications to the plans which are needed to make adjustments for
various purposes. Such adjustments are periodically necessary for most
large mining operations and no modifications have occurred on this
operation for some time
same changes in opera
works for some tim
u
Therefore, the permit amend
1 techniques anri areas that have been in the
F'AGE 1 CIF ~ - INTRODUCTION
., ~: ~.a:,.., ....~,.
