priority system does not only include all the permitted lands currently
• controlled by Daniel's Sand and on the west side of Academy Boulevard,
but also the Sand F'it area to the north and currently under permit to
Castle Concrete Company of Colorado Springs. Pecause the reclamation
plans of these two operations have been linked under a single
develepaent concept, the limited soils available gust be distributed
over a wider area than just this one permit. This has certain
advantages to both areas.
The Sand Fit areas will undoubtedly have the greatest need for
soil, but there is little sail present that was saved. The west portion
of the Daniel's Sand operation is an relatively level, moderately severe
sites that could he adequately revegetated with limited soils.
Therefore, by integrating the plans, the sail is able to be used where
it is cost needed. Without integration, the area needing soil the worst
• would. have little to use and the area having the least need would have
the aost soil available. Without reaoval of the dike of sand between
the operations, moving soil froa Daniel's to the Sand Pit would be
uneconomic, but with the dike reaoved and the pit opened into the
Daniel's Sand Pit, aovement of soil becomes a very real and simple
matter, thus enhancing the reclamation of both areas at once.
SOIL SALVAGE RECDMMENDATIONS FOR THE SITE:
---- ------- --------------- --- --- -----
It is apparent that an the west side of Academy Boulevard, soil
salvage is hardly passible. What soil is there has already been
"salvaged" and is in various piles around the site. Moving those piles
would not be wise as it would further harm the growth characteristics
that have developed in the surface layers of these piles since the time
they were first piled. On this side of Academy, it becomes a matter of
finding the best use for what is present.
F'AGE B ~F 9 - EXHIBIT I
