legumes at the expense of the grasses. Also, mulches can create the
same condition, where the boast tv legumes far exceeds the value to the
• grasses and the grasses never develop well, at least for several years
until the interacticns can become readjusted. Using this approach, the
following is the process of revegetating this site.
Planting will occur between late February and early April. There
is a preference at this site far planting in early to mid March, but
anytime between mid February and mid April can 6e nearly as good. After
mid April no planting should occur as the moisture conditions are
inappropriate for seeding sandy soils. In those cases planting should
be delayed until the next year.
Seeding will occur into sail which has been spread within the
previous month. The sail should he left very loose and rough sm there
is a location far the seed to become buried through micro-erosion and
• frost action. In the event the soil has become smooth through wind
and/or water erosion (either because of being placed earlier than
is appropriate or through unusually severe storms) then the soil should
he loosened and roughened.
Seeding will 6e done by broadcasting the mixture on the top of the
sail. Although broadcasting does not produce a uniform distribution,
the randomness of broadcasting is especially valuable on slopes as well
as creating a mare natural appearing vegetation pattern.
Fertilization should he done in accordance with sail tests
performed an either stockpiled topsoil or on the soil after it has been
spread, if tine permits. The latter approach is preferred, but often
•
F'AGE 11 OF 14 - EXHIPIT E
