PHASE IVw - This area is primarily intended for access roads and
. miscellaneous activities associated with the mining of Phase IIw and the
processing of material in F'hase Iw. Little actual activity will occur
in this area, but it is within the permitted area and will be maintained
as such.
WATER DIVERSIONS AND IMPOUNUMENT5_ No water diversion is necessary in
this operation as no streams occur on the site. Also, no impoundments
will 6e produced. In fact, the deposit is so porous it would be rather
difficult to create an impoundment and expect it to hold any water.
STRATA UNDER THE DEPOSIT: In this area the usual material under the
------ ----- --- --------
sand is a gravel layer about LO to 20 feet deep. This gravel layer is
highly variable in its composition. In places it may be pure gravel
throughout its depth while just a few feet away it may 6e interlaced
. with clay Beans. Apparently before the sand was deposited by wind this
was an old stream bed which carried materials similar to what is
currently found along Fountain Creek. However, some of this coarse
material prohably also tame from the various rock types found in the
Black Forest area on the south side of the Palmer Lake Divide.
Shale usually occurs under the gravels, but this too can be
variable. At any rate, the depth of mining will approach the gravel
layer but in Host areas will not penetrate it. These gravels tend to
act as a rather poor aquifer and when penetrated can cause same rather
difficult problems in operating on the bottom of the pit. Because the
current plan is to acquire the sand and Hat the gravels and then prepare
the site for possible industrial development, penetration of the gravel
• and the "aquifer" would be counterproductive to the probable future use
and value of the land.
F'AGE lip OF 11 - EXHIBIT D
a.z "....
