• The site where the borehole will be drilled and the storage tank
placed will be stripped of topsoil prior to disturbance. The site is
located in a Turret soil (mapping unit 606) and approximately 18 inches
of topsoil is available far salvage from this series. The reader is
referred to Appendix III-9 for a discussion of the suitability of this
soil as a plant growth media. The topsoil, approximately 750 yd3, is
salvaged and stockpiled adjacent to the borehole and tank. The borehole
is drilled into the 2nd East Mains at an approximate depth of 300 feet.
The borehole will be cased its entire length, thus eliminating any
potential impacts on the hydrologic regime of the area. No significant
amounts of water were encountered during the drilling of the borehole.
The underground distribution system will carry the fresh water to
• various sections of the mine. The major usage of the water will occur
in the Empire Tract.
The reclamation plan for the system is found later in this section.
Reclamation costs are presented in Appendix IV-13.
Magazine
Empire Energy stores explosive devices in the magazines identified
on Map IV-2. Both of these structures are marked and locked to prevent
j tampering with materials contained within them. They both are
relatively small structures and can be easily moved by use of a chain
and front end loader. The road leading into the site is shown on flap
IV-15.
• Due to the small disturbance associated with them, approximately
lOG ftz, a variance is requested from sediment control requirements. Plo
additional contributions of sediment should be realized from the sites.
(REV. 12/13/83) IV-44h
