~~FARGE /
NORTH AMERICA
AGGREGATES, CONCRETE
& ASPHALT
March 31, 2006
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
~6h G1O
RECEJ~ED
~~ ~'~12~
" oiriaion of Minerah and Raoto~,
RE: Fountain Pit, Permit No. M-1981-307
Request for Placement of Inert Fill in an Active Construction Materials Pit
To Whom it May Concern: ~
Lafarge is requesting permission from the Division of Minerals and Geology to allow the importation and
placement of inert fill into our Fountain Pit located southwest of Fountain, Colorado. In support of this,
Lafazge is pleased to provide the following information concerning Rule 3.1.5(9) on the importation and
placement of backfill.
a) The attached map details the location of the proposed fill. The fill will be incorporated into
reclaimed slopes and silt ponds and covered with native material or topsoil.
b) The attached affidavit certifies that the material meets the definition of "clean and inert" fill.
Based on this affidavit, Lafarge believes that the groundwater will not be impacted by the
placement of this material.
c) It is anticipated that the material will start to be incorporated into the reclamation process in
2006 and will continue each yeaz over the life of the mine.
d) The placement of the inert fill will not alter the planned reclamation of the Fountain Pit. Since
it will be placed within the slopes and silt pond azeas and covered by native material, no changes
aze anticipated to the post-mining use.
e) Since the material to be placed is overburden, topsoil, milled asphalt rubble and clean concrete
rubble, the particle sizes will be sufficiently small as to not result in large or unstable voids. The
material will "mimic" the placement of the natural gravels and overburden and therefore not pose
any stability risk.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 303-657-4466.
Sincerely,
~~~ ~~~n, /7L.~~
Tamra Stevens, ASP
Resource Management Coordinator
Attachments: Map detailing fill location
Affidavit on Fill Material
