S s

conveyed runoff from this azea to the 001 ponds. However, construction of the Dutch Creek
Diversion eliminated a portion of the ditch, so that drainage from this azea no longer reports to
the 001 pond. Straw bales were placed at the western most inlet to the ditch. Straw bales were
also placed at the outlet of the ditch (located at the western mazgin of the Dutch Creek
Diversion). These inlet and outlet bales will serve to minimize sediment contribution to Dutch
Creek.
- A series of small berms and larger depressions were constructed between the toe of the newly
created refuse azea and the northern perimeter ditch. This system should allow for settling of
heavier sediment particles from runoff water.
-Eleven straw bales were placed between the discharge point from the berm and depression
system and the northern perimeter ditch across a portion of Road A. These bales will serve to
remove any remaining sediment from the refuse pile drainage, and from the northern most
segment of Road A, prior to dischazging to the old 001 pond inlet ditch and Dutch Creek.
B. Comprehensive inspections of all three construction azeas were made on an almost daily
basis until November 9, 1998. Installation and periodic modification of the BMP's described in
Section A, above, were completed throughout the construction period. No significant problems
were observed. As an inactive mine, only one inspection was required to be performed.
C. No sampling was accomplished, as little, if any, runoff occurred at the site between
permit issuance and the end of construction.
C:\sgr\clbsn\strtnw[rpt.wpd
