_..,
./
PROPOSED GRANGES 10
j South Branch Rel ocation
--'t The relocated South Branch channel, from the entry point. on the Weng
.)
farm west boundary to the Goss No. 1 Ditch headgate, will be open channel,
~
j except fo r concrete slope protection at channel inlets. The slope of this
section of the relocated South Branch channel will. be 0.45 percen'. and the
.._.,1
~ design capacity, exclusive of (0.8 feet) freeboard, will. be 113 seecond feet..
--~ From the relocated headgate of Goss No. 1 Ditch to the South Branch exit
--J
point on the Weng farm's south boundary, a distance of only 55 feet, the
--^t
~ average slope will be 0. 45 percent and the design capacity will, be 173 second
_-J
feet. (This slope does not include a one-fooC concrete drop at Structure
----^^~~
i
--, No. 1 to dissipate exces s hydraulic head.)
-'~ In a previous section of this report. is was mentioned that th•= present
--J
carrying capacity of the South Bra nch channel through the Weng farci is esti-
mated to be about. 1.40 second feet. This estimate is based upon field surveys
which resulted in the profiles and cross-sections shown on Exhibit. 7. It was
~'1
- j also indicated previously in this report that the total amounts decreed to
South Branch ditches is about 123 second feet and that. if the maximum daily
diversions reported for each ditch were totaled, without regard to time of
-^a
~ occurrence, the combined maximum diversion would be about 78 second feet.
- Y
Thus the design capacity of 173 second feet for the relocated South Branch
-_f channel provides a very substantial margin of safety for South Bran~:h water
rights.
-.1
South Branch discharges,.up to a maximum of. 67. second feet, carp be wasted
~~ back to St. Vrain Creek through facilities (Exhibit 51 that WPC prozoses to
- construct at its own expense. This proposed South Branch wasteway will. be
.~
,; of considerabie operational value t.o owners of the Goss No. 2 Ditch and to
--~ owners of the Clough and True Ditch. It will also benefit. other downstream
~ ditches on the South Branch b
y providing improved operational. control during
periods of excess water in the South Branch.
