1 <br />' The quarry is less than one quarter mile west of the Canon <br />' City limits. The rail siding parcel is adjacent to the city. <br /> Surrounding properties are generally undeveloped. <br />' Significant properties include Royal Gorge Park to the west, <br /> Snider's quarry to the south and the State Penitentiary Honor <br />' Farm to the east. <br />' Zoning of subject is predominately Agricultural according to <br />the Fremont County Zoning Ordinance. Most uses are allowed <br />' excepting wrecking yards, industrial, slaughter houses and <br />' strip mines. These uses require special permits. <br />Mining and Mineral Summary <br />1 Subject was operated as a quarry under Colorado Mining and <br />' Reclamation Permit #77-376, Revised April 15, 1982. The <br />principal product was metallurgical dolomite for use at the <br />' CF&I steel plant in Pueblo, Colorado. <br />' The dolomite was strip mined from benches constructed by <br />drilling and blasting. During normal years, the annual <br />' tonnage produced was approximately 160,000. In place <br />reserves are estimated by CF&I to be 30,400,000 tons. <br />According to the reclamation plan filed by C F & I, the areas <br />' of physical disturbance are summarrized as: <br />' Major 26 Acres <br />Moderate 9 Acres <br />Minor 446 Acres <br />' Reclamation will consist of minor grading, chemical <br />fertilization and seeding.
