- MINE I.D.:
U ~'a419`
Phase II Bond Release Study
- SAMPLE DATES: Late June or early July.
w.ro~lc ~~~
C-89-o9`~
MINE SUMMARY
- MINE LOCATION: Las Animas County, between approx. 6480' and 6640'
elev.
- MINE ACREAGE: Main disturbed area: 7.89 + 0.52 acres
SAE # 1:0.22 acres.
SAE # 2: 1.25 acres.
SAE # 3: 0.28 acres.
SAE # 4: 0.01 acres.
SAE # 5: 0.12 acres.
(TOTAL SAE = 1.88 acres)
- PARAMETERS: Cover (and species diversity).
- SAMPLE HISTORY: No previous sampling known.
- SUCCESS: Based on comparison to standards.
Page 4 of the approved permit document states that success will be based
on technical standards as follows:
Herbaceous Cover: 43`Yo
Species Diversity.• At least three warm season grasses, two
cool season grasses, and one perennial forb, each
contributing at least 3% but no greater than 403 relative
cover.
METHODS
QUANTITATIVE SAMPLING -GENERAL:
- MINIMUM SAMPLE NUMBERS: 10 transects. This minimum is
proposed due to the small area of the reclaimed surface.
-ADEQUACY: Will be sampled to adequacy (using statistical calculations
given on pages 20 and 21 of the Division's Bond Release Guidelines ( i 1'ne
Reeard' Q Selected Coal Mine Bond Release Issues) unless sample adequacy is so high
that the number of samples would begin to negatively affect the accuracy of the sample.
Should the latter scenario occur, the Division will be consulted.
- SAMPLE UNIT: The reclaimed areas (including the SAE's) will be
considered to be a single sample unit to be compared as a whole to the technical
standard.
- RANDOM: Selection of sample locations within each the reclaimed
community will be random, and will involve the selection of points from a gridded
map.
- FIELD PLACEMENT: Location of sample points in the field will be with
compass and pacing.
- MAP: Approximate location of sample points will be designated on a map
that will be enclosed with the report.
TOTAL VEGETATIVE COVER:
- Total vegetative cover will be estimated using an optical point frame
developed by ESCO Associates.
- Cover transects will originate from the sample point locations.
