SHELTON, Director
August 10, 1984
Mr. Rocky Bowman
West Elk Coal Company
P. O. Box 591
Somerset, Colorado 81434
Re: Notice of Intent CX-190-00 - Alluvial dell Project
Dear Mr. Bowman:
The Division received your Notice of Intent on August 3, 1984. The project
entails drilling three alluvial wells for monitoring purposes. The Division
has determined that your Notice is complete and that the project qualifies as
coal exploration with substantial disturbance that would require a bond.
Since the wells will eventually need to be sealed and plugged the Division
must require a .performance bond be posted. The costs were calculated as
follows:
Assume one mud pit to be reclaimed -
$60.00/hr x 2 hrs/pit x 1 pit $120.00
Sealing 3 holes -
Abandonment fluid 120 feet $ 15.00
Equipment - 3 hours x $20.00/hr $ 60.00
Labor - 4 h ours x $10.00/hr $ 40.00
Plugging 3 holes -
3 plugs $ 10.00
3 holes, 7 foot cement plug $ 21.00
Contingency for any reseeding - $ 14.00
Mobilization - 20.00
Total Bond Required $300.00
Since this amount is small it might be appropriate to combine the bond for
this project with a previously bonded project conducted by ARCO. If this is
desired, you should submit a letter accepting bond liability that references
the bond you wish to use. If not, you need to submit a bond along with an
appropriate Division bond form prior to our approval of the project.
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel.
