Dennis Boykin - 1/2/85 - Page 2
5. MULCHING
Grass hay ar straw will be applied uniformly on the site at a
rate of 4,000 pounds per acre. The mulch will then be crimped
appro>imately 3-4 inches into the soil using a mulch crimper or
farm disc which has been set straight and weight added to
obtain the necessary crimping depth. Crimping will be dyne as
much as possible on the contour.
G. OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE
The site will be protected from grazing animals at all times by
the use of power fencing.
Weed control, especially regarding suppression of Russian
l~napa~eed, will be carried out through applications of selective
herbicides and/or mowing operations. Herbicides will not be
applied until after the seedlings have attained the 4-leaf
stage of growth.
Fertilizer application (N2 and P2O5) will be carried out for a
minimum of three successive years after planting. Rates of
application will be the same as listed unter item N3.
~,~a~ Randy and I also discussed with Mike their plans to continue
~O~a.Y'S reclamation efforts on the Hogback Mine site. The following
decisions were made by Mike.
When the over burden material is backfilled the finished slope
will be 3:1 or flatter. Also, contour furrows will be
constructed across the backfilled slope just as planned for the
Ute site.
2. A section of rock-cliff (approximately 20-40 feet tall) will be
left at the top of the backfilled slope. Mike plans to develop
raptor habitat by constructing nesting sites into the face of
the cliff. He will contact your local Wildlife Conservation
Officer (Colorado Division of Wildlife) for technical
assistance on developing this raptor habitat. You may want to
contact Eld~ie Mustard to obtain his input.
Further reclamation plans for this site will be made at a later
date.
n
_ 7~
Ben P.
