BISiNEA~AND RECLAMATION DIVISIOI
L i roo n , CQp~,~~Bp) Neturel Resources
Date: January 2, 1985
File Code: 110
~fo~ac/2 ems,,,
n.rk} l~`
The purpose of this trip was to assist Randy in preparing a
~1e reclamation plan for the Robinson Brick and Til r• on their
Ute Mine Site. This is an exis ing clay pit part of which has been
~, c ose an needs to be reclaimed according to Colorado Mined Land
1 ' Reclamation Division regulations. The site is located
approximately two miles north of Sedalia.
Randy and I met with Mike Leidich, Mining Engineer for Robinson
Brick and Tile Company, to arrive at the necessary planning
decisions. The following represents a summary of these decisions
and will constitute the basis of the reclamation plan.
SITE PREPARATION
The area to be revegetated has already been backfilled to
acceptable slopes and topsoiled. However, some gullys and
rills have developed near the bottom of the slope. These will
be shaped in and smoothed before reclamation begins. In
addition, contour furrows will be constructed across the entire
slope. The contour furrows will have a minimum cross section
area of 48 square inches and be spaced no further than 10 feet
apart horizontally.
2. SEEDBED PREPARATION
Seedbed preparation will be carried out inorder to control the
weeds on the site and loosen the compacted surface soil.
Seedbed preparation will consist of discing twice and harrowing
in early spring (April).
3. FERTILIZATION
Nitrogen and phosphate will be applied at a rate of 40 pounds
per acre available N2 and P2O5. Application will be
immediately prior to seeding. Rate of aplicatien should be
modified according to the results of a soil test.
4. SEEDING OPERATION
Seed will be planted to a depth of 1/2 to 3/4 inch using a
grass drill equipped with depth bands and packer wheels. Time
of planting will be from April 15th to May 10th. Species to be
planted and seeding rates will be according to the attached
specification sheet. Some of the species to be planted will be
provided through the SCS Plant Materials Program. Therefore
each of the species will be planted into evaluation plots
laved-out prior to drilling the grasses.
