.t
~, : ~ ...
~/ %.
Mr. Dan Plathews
November 28, 1983
Page 2

grass and water was inadequate for their purposes. I think this
is largely because of the fact tl?at Pit #4 encompasses what used
to be a fairly large grazing area, and Pit ~4 is now in the pro-
cess of being opened and utilized.
It is our expectation that a substantial part of Pit #1 and
Pit #2 will be available for (limited) grazing in 1984--should
such a use come into being. This would mean that only a portion
of Pit >r3 and a small portion of Pit #2 would need specialized
control. In view of the fact that we do not expect grazing to
occur in 1984 (and by 1985 these areas should be totally available
for grazing should grazing be proposed by the surface owner in
that year), our plan consists of:
1. Keeping contact with the surface owner to determine
whether or not there will, in fact, be grazing in 1984;
2. If no grazing is contemplated no further action will have
to be taken;
3. If grazing does become lmown as a probable use , we will
propose to identify and delineate the areas vfliere grazing could be
permitted and, if at all possible, strictly prohibit grazing any
place above the juncture in the former pit access road where the
pit access road comes into the main haul road adjacent to Grassy
Creek; and
4. When the sheep are brought to the site, the sheepherder
would be specifically shown the prohibited areas and given
specific requests to avoid permitting sheep to get into those
areas; and
5. In addition, personnel from The ~ockcastle Company would
periodically check the "off limits" in order to prevent access by
livestock.
In view of the fact that there is no present expectation of
grazing in this area, eve feel that this is an appropriate response
to your request.
If there are further questions, please advise.
