L1 r:2~~, .,i i.'L.,(" c <br />~,rCE_ <br />At our meeting in the office of the MLRD on S°tednesday, <br />November 23, 1983, it was pointed out that there was a need to <br />have documentation in the file of the Grassy Gap Mine #1 with <br />respect to its proposed method of excluding sheep from new <br />reclaimed areas prior to obtaining approval from the Division for <br />grazing under MLRD Rule 4.15.5(2).. <br />From the historical perspective, it should be noted that <br />there has been very little problem and apparently no real evidence <br />of damage to revegetated areas from the grazing of sheep. After <br />the 1982 grazing season, the owners of Bogle Farms advised The <br />Rockcastle general superintendent that they were not going to <br />graze the property the following year. Accordingly, no particular <br />plans were made to deal with the issue of sheep grazing on newly <br />reclaimed areas because it was not expected that there would be <br />any such livestock on the premises. <br />As it turned out, the landowner, at the very last minute, <br />decided to lease the surface grazing rights to a third party, and <br />sheep were present for a period in the summer of 1983. Some <br />apparent transgresions by these animals were noted, but such <br />transgressions were apparently without consequence. <br />We have now been advised by the people who grazed in 1983 <br />that they do not intend to return in 1984 because the available <br />
