Dave Berry
December 9, 1997
Page 6
48. Did Bear divert face runoff andlor flows to sealed or previously developed
and/or pillared workings?
49. Provide data on mine inflows including quantity, quality, location,
temperature, and how the water was routed in the mine. Where will water
utilized by Bear during its operations accumulate now that the mine is
closed?
50. What was the flow rate of the inflow at the time of mine closure?
51. Has Bear's reclamation plan taken into account past instabilities in and
around the Bear Mine site? If so, what are the details of those plans?
52. What is believed to be cause of the different chemistry in the AA-1
monitoring well that was located in the alluvium at the west end of the mine
site (now covered by slide debris) as compared to well AA-3 (as shown in
Bear's 1995 and 1996 AHRs)? How long has Bear been monitoring these
wells and how long has this difference in chemistry been observed?
53. Bear's AHRs provide mine maps which show a couple of faulted areas. For
the fault at the west end of the 3rd west panel, in particular, what information
is available on the effects this fault may have on groundwater flow, colluvial
inflows, and on communication between the West Elk workings and the Bear
mine workings?
54. Have you performed any conductivity analyses or otherwise estimated or
calculated migration time for water passing through the coal between your
B-Seam workings and Mountain Coal's Northwest Panels? Please provide
results.
Very truly yours,
~` ~~~
R. Kirk Mueller
RKM:kmn
cc: Phil Schmidt, WEM
Jon Jones, WWE
