Dave Berry
December 9, 1997
Page 4
22. MCC's PHC explicitly defines probable water movement within and
discharge locations at and in the vicinity of the Bear Mine. Does Bear and
its consultant agree with MCC's interpretation? If not, please provide us
with your alternative explanation.
23. Are there any connections between the old Edwards/Clark Mine and the
Bear mine workings?
24. Does Bear Coal Company have information (i.e., maps) showing the extent
of the Edwards/Clark mine workings? Can MCC get a copy of this
information?
25. Where is the minimum overburden thickness within the Bear mine workings?
26. What is the minimum distance between the Bear mine workings and the
Edwards/Clark mine workings and where is it located?
27. Does water quality data from bedrock monitoring wells at the Bear Mine
show similar characteristics to the water discharging from the Edwards/Clark
Mine?
28. Does Bear Coal Company have reason to believe that groundwater within
the Edwards/Clark Mine would have elevated temperatures or conductivity
values?
29. When was water first encountered in the Bear No. 3 Mine, in which seam
and where?
30. What type of extraction method (e.g., complete extraction, split-and-fender,
etc.) was used in the Bear No. 3 Mine, in the B-Seam, and in the C-Seam?
31. Did landslides effect mining operations in either the B-Seam or C-Seam?
32. Were roof instability problems encountered in the Bear No. 3 Mine, B-Seam
and C-Seam? If so, what type of problems were encountered and where?
33. Produce mine maps showing faults, fractures, location, timing and amount
and temperature of encountered water in B-Seam and C-Seam in the Bear
Mine. Where was mine water stored prior to or in lieu of discharging it to the
surface?
34. Provide location and areas where C-Seam workings collapsed into the B-
Seam workings.
35. Provide location and character of all seals placed in B- and C-Seam
workings.
