TECHNICAL REVISION - CHIEFTAIN MINE
Dear Carl:
Robinson Brick Company (ROBCO) is requesting a technical revision
to the above referenced property and permit.
This request is based upon the fact that the State of Colorado
Department of Highways took a portion of the permitted property for
the construction of C470. In the process of the taking, another
portion of the permitted property was isolated from the existing
mine area. The isolated area lies to the west of C470 and the
existing mine area lies to the east of C470. There is no access
from the east property to the west.
We have already processed through the MLRD a request for release of
financial warranty for the effected lands. The property was
inspected on May 14, 1992 by Bill York-Feirn of your staff and the
property was released from the financial warranty. We did not
request a reduction in the financial warranty amount and asked
simply for a release of the property. I was notified by Bill that
the release has been approved. We are now asking to complete the
second step of the process to bring the permit into conformance.
The only portion of the permit affected by this request is "Stage
One" which originally contained 63.13 acres with a planned mined
acreage of 32.55 acres. The amount of the property taken and
isolated together equals 35.45 acres. This means that Stage One is
now reduced to 27.68 acres in total size with a planned mined area
of approximately 24.9 acres. Most of the currently disturbed area
in Stage One was pre-law.
In addition to the changed acreage, Robinson Brick Company wishes
to revise the timetable contained in the original permit
application booklet on page 11. The time for Stage One is
requested to be changed from 10 - 20 years to 35 years (from
