Ow comments and recommendations center on two areas: reclamation of riparian areas disturbed by past mining-related activities and the long-term area impacts on surface and subsurface water resources. '1` ~.: ._..• .', r,u :o.. _ Water Storage Reservoir, • ' " ' ' " ~ ' "~ ~ . • ~r' • ,,,,,, „ " .. .. ... ;~'! .rrr The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NAGS) recommends that the final reservoir slopes be no steeper than 3:1, and preferably less steep, to permit eventual use of the water storage reservoir by wildlife. Steep side slopes can discourage wildlife from approaching and using the reservoir Reclamation Re-Vegetation Riparian and other areas surrounding the mine site that have been disturbed by past mining- related activities will require reclamation to prevent wind and water soil erosion. During site reclamation of these areas, it is recommended that topsoil be spread over all areas to be re- vegetated in lifts not to exceed 4 inches and worked into the slopes to ensure good adhesion and to minimize soil creep. In order to re-establish normal levels of microbial activity in the soil, compost at the rate of one cubic yard per 1000 fl should be mixed with the soil. If compost is .. not applied, fotlowing topsoil replacement and before grass is seeded, the soil should be tested to detemtine the heed for additional fertilizer. Normal recommended seeding dates are from November 1'` through Apri130t°; seeding should be done in unfrozen soil. A good quality seed 'drill with an agitator and press wheels is rewmmended.
