.'

Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company November 13, 2003
Mr. Ron Roberts -2- 003-2203
• Modified Proctor Compaction (ASTM D 1557) - 1 test;
• Flexible-wall Permeability (ASTM D5084) - I 1 tests;
• Liner Load -1 test; and
• Single-Point Interface Sheaz Testing (ASTM D5321) - 2 tests.
The results of these tests were compazed to the Phase N VLF Project Technical Specifications, The
Phase N VLF Project Technical Specifications for SLF are as follows:

Gradafion:
US.`Standard Sieve Size ::Percent Passing by-Dry Wt. ?-
2 inch 100
No. 200 15 - 50
t Plastic Index (PI): 10 minimum
Permeability: 1x10 centimeters per second (cm/sec), maximum.
According to the current specifications, the SLF is to be compacted to a minimum of 95 percent of the
maximum Standard Proctor dry density, with a moisture content between 3 percent below and at
optimum moisture content.
LABORATORY TEST RESULTS
Index Testine
Sieve analyses and Atterberg limits were conducted on samples A-I and ALT-TP-1 through
ALT-TP-9 in June and July 2002, one composite sample ALT-TP-10 in November 2002, and sample
ALT-TP-11 in January 2003. Results of sieve analyses and Atterberg limits testing are summarized
in Table 1 and included in Appendix A. Sieve analyses conducted on samples of the soil indicate that
58 to 86 percent of the material passes the 3/4-inch sieve, and approximately 26 to 39 percent of the
material passes the No. 200 sieve. With limited screening, the material meets project specifications
' with respect to gradation. The results of the Atterberg limits tests indicate that the plasticity index
ranges from 16 to 32, which is within the project specifications.
Proctor Comuaction Tests
Standazd Proctor compaction testing was conducted on samples ALT-TP-1, ALT-TP-3, ALT-TP-6,
ALT-TP-8, ALT-TP-9, ALT-TP-10 and ALT-TP-11. Samples ALT-TP-6, ALT-TP-8, and
ALT-TP-10 were corrected for oversize particles. After corrections were applied, the maximum dry
density ranged from 110.0 pounds per cubic foot (pcf) to 119.3 pcf with optimum moisture contents
' ranging from 12.3 to 14.9 percent. A modified Proctor compaction test was conducted on sample
ALT-TP-6, resulting in a maximum dry density of 124.5 pcf at an optimum moisture content of
10.1 percent. Results of Proctor testwg aze summarized in Table 1 and included in Appendix A.
two~uosw~oowoozzo,.oiao.osomasxroxsl.Fmc Golder Associates
