~~ Ir- 1
Second, after reviewing the Shrub Concentration Areas map (Exhibit 13-13.3), it appears as though there is very
little acreage designated as shrub concentration azeas in either BRB 4 or BRB 5. The CDOW feels that these shrub
concentration azeas are an important component of overall reclamation and recommends that additional acreage be
added to make up at least 5 % of the BRB as is noted in the proposed standard above. In fact, it would be
preferable that the shrub azeas make up more than 5% of the total BRB acreage. Additionally, it is our
understanding that BRB 5 has yet to be reclaimed. This presents an opportunity to apply many of the revegetation
techniques used at Seneca II-W to insure better establishment of woody plants. These techniques include broadcast
seeding of mountain big sagebrush, variation in top-soil depth, and fencing to control grazing. BRB 5 provides an
opportunity to reclaim a larger percentage of the overall acreage as a shrub concentration area. Because Seneca II
is proposing to reduce the overall shrub density standazd, the CDOW would welcome a concurrent effort to
increase the acreage of shrub concentration azeas where possible.
Thank you again for the opportunity to comment on the woody plant establishment plan and density standazd for
Seneca II.
