No.
TO: Mr. Jim Dillie, Colorado Department of Mining and Geology
CC: Mr. Bill Lvle and Mr. David Lone, •Battle•Moontain Resourcesi Inc.
FROM: Walter L. Niccoli. P.E. f.; ~~:;-i' ~ .-
SUBJECT: Tailings Line Collection Pond
INTRODUCTION:
The Colorado Department of Mining and Geology requested that Battle Mountain ~tesources Inc.
(BMItI) construct a retention facility at the San Luis Mine to contain the amount o~'byproduct that
could potentially be lost from the transfer line that runs between the water treatment plant and the
tailings pond. The retention facility is to wntain approximately 40,000 gallons. This facility will
have the capacity to contain the volume stored in the transfer line plus one hour of umping at a
nominal 350 gpm. This technical memorandum documents the design criteria use~to size the
facility, the construction methods employed, and the final retention facility design, idetails, and
dimensions (As Built verification).
Design Criteria:
I) Calculated volumes:
A) volume held in the transfer pipe:
1) length of pipe multiplied by the cross-sectional area
2) length of pipe = 2.4 miles
3) cross-sectional area = 0.196
4) volumeP;~ = 18,610 gal
B) volume lost from active pumping before loss realized (pumping rates multiplied by
time):
1) pumping rate = 350 gpm
2) time = 1 hour
3) volumeno„. = 21,000 gal
C) total volume: volumeP;P~ + volumenow = 39,610 gallons
II) Miscellaneous:
A) Accessible by maintenance personnel
B) Protect existing structures
