Erosion Control Measures. <br />5 ~.r_.. - <br />Three(3)- to ten(10)- foot berms are placed between the relatively flat reclaimed areas and adjacent rt y~; %` <br />slopes of the areas being actively mined or not yet reclaimed to help prevent erosioy: Temporary "' "`~ • (~ijd <br />berms to divert surface water runoff are also constructed on a daily basis using a road grader. These ,, , ~ - • <:.: ,1 <br />temporary berms are typically one (1) to three (3) high and are constructed using on-site materials. <br />Erosion control for the landf Iled CKD is accomplished by the application of the sewage sludge which <br />occurs several times per day. The moisture from the sludge, and from rainfall, combines with the <br />CKD to form a hard crust which helps prevent erosion of the CICD from both wind and surface water <br />runoff. <br />r <br />5. CICD Sampling and Analytical Methodologies. <br />Appendix E of the attached Hydrogeologic Assessment contains historic chemical analyses of CKD <br />and Fremont sewage sludge samples. These analyses show the CKD solids to be composed <br />predominantly of oxides of calcium, silica, potassium, aluminum, iron, and sulfate. Composite CICD <br />samples also had potentially significant concentrations of minor elements such as barium, arsenic, <br />chromium, copper, manganese, nickel, lead, antimony, selenium, thallium, and zinc. When mixed <br />with distilled water, the samples yield a leachate having an alkaline pH (between about l2 and 13). <br />C1CD samples are collected by Holnam on a monthly basis from the screw conveyor in the kiln located <br />on the south side of the Arkansas River. The monthly samples are composited and analyzed on a <br />quarterly basis.
