these features.
We have also clarified the reclamation figures to include to
additional ripping to ensure disturbed soil that will encourage
better rooting depth.
TOPSOIL
To clarify the statement "For the majority of the area to be
affected, little topsoil was salvaged from the previous mining
activities", we state that this is not due to the operations
of Gosney, but previous activities before Gosney's. We feel
that with the ponds being created due to the high probability
of encountering groundwater, there will be sufficient topsoil
to reclaim the balance of the area with the 4 - 6" stated
topsoil depth. We would also like to clarify the statement
that topsoil may be salvaged from future minings by stating
that all recoverable topsoil encountered will be stockpiled
as completely as possible for future reclamation of the site.
If insufficient topsoil is present on site at final reclamation,,
topsoil will be imported or soil amendments will be incorporated
to allow for sufficient topsoil coverage.
We estimate 3/9 of total acreage of Phases 5,6,7 are basically
devoid of topsoil due to pre-Gosney mining. However the 1/4
eastern portion remaining is irrigated pasture and as such will
yield topsoil enough to revegetate the sideslopes of the proposed
pond left after mining.
PERFORMANCE BOND AMOUNT
Please contact us as soon as the bond amount has been set or
if you need any further clarifications concerning the submittal.
In referance to your letter of November 30, 1993 concerning
the comments of Colorado Division of wildlife, we have contacted
Ruth Carlson .to clarify that Gosney and Sons will flatten the
finished slopes into the pond(s) as much as possible and in
as many places as possible, but cannot agree to do this in all
areas. Ms. Carlson said she would contact you conerning this
part of the agreement.
Please contact us with any further comments or suggestions.
!/J~c~gre 1 Y .
Br1an Kimmel
Southwest Land Services, Inc.
Agent for Gosney and Sons, Inc.
..s. ~ -,..'
