• III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
999
SOUTHWEST
LAND SERVICES, INC.
•
December 29, 1993
Tom Gillis
Colorado Division of Mineral and Geology
1474 Main Ave., Room 223
Durango, CO. 81301
RE: Adequacy review- Bayfield Pit No. 1 Amendment No. AM002,
Permit No. M-87-038
Dear Mr. Gillis,
Gosney and Sons, Inc. has asked Southwest Land Services, Inc.
as their agent, to address the comments provided us in your
letter dated December 14, 1993. Hopefully, we will be able
to address all comments and concerns in a manner that will keep
this process continuing. We will address each comment in the
same order as .addressed in your original letter.
ESTIMATED LIFE OF MINE
The life of the mine as noted in the public notice indicated
the life of the entire, proposed gravel pit and 6699 CR 521,
Bayfield, not just the life of Phases 5, 6 and 7, the phases
being added in the amendment. It was our understanding that
the public notice asked for the life of the entire gravel pit.
Please note that the life of the Phases 5, 6 and 7 will be as
stated, approximately 5-7 years, depending on demand and amount
of gravel encountered.
POST MINING LAND USE
We need a point of clarification concerning how long the DMG
feels responsible for the future land uses of property used
for gravel mining after reclamation? Gosney and Sons, Inc.
intend to use the land for rangeland/recreation purposes.
The statement in the Exhibit G - Water information concerned
possible future land use being residential. That would occur
after final reclamation has been completed for the entire gravel
pit and after the bond from the Division of Minerals and Geology
has been released. With the land use Master Plan approved by
the County, we indicated that the post mining uses would be
rangeland, but left open the future possibility for residential
development after mining ceases on the site. Neighbors in the
area tend to comment when the lifespan for the overall pit is
not addressed. Therefore, we are in the habit of using the
time span and possible ultimate uses mentioned in the Land Use
Master Plan.
MINE PLAN AND RECLAMATION PLAN MAPS
The comments concerning the maps and their clarity have been
d.b.a: PROPERTY ANALYSIS 8 DEVELOPMENT and SOUTHWEST NATURAL LANDSCAPES
PHONE: 303-259-2629 POSTOFFICE BOX 2673 DURANGO, COLORADO 61302
' a'; , ,....rar .. ... , .. .a_wexx-.~m.~s'y-+-°~,..: cEr. .6`- r, .- 3:... -
